Examination and revision programmes

THE ENM COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS CONSIST OF TWO GROUPS OF PAPERS. THE ELIGIBILITY PAPERS TRADITIONALLY TAKE PLACE IN JUNE FOR THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS AND IN SEPTEMBER FOR THE COMPLEMENTARY EXAMINATIONS. THE ADMISSION papers GENERALLY TAKE PLACE BETWEEN SEPTEMBER AND DECEMBER FOR THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS AND IN NOVEMBER FOR THE COMPLEMENTARY EXAMINATIONS.
EACH ENTRANCE EXAMINATION HAS ITS OWN REVISION PROGRAMME. THE REFORM OF THE papers AND PROGRAMMES FOR THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION AND THE MODIFIED PROGRAMME OF THE COMPLEMENTARY EXAMINATIONS WILL COME INTO EFFECT AS OF THE 2020 SESSION.

1st ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Knowledge and understanding of the contemporary world – time: 5 h – weighting: 4 
Composition on an issue facing French society today in its judicial, legal, social, political, historic, economic, philosophical and cultural aspects.

Civil law and civil procedure OR Criminal law and criminal procedure – time: 5 h – weighting: 4 
Composition on a subject chosen by the examining board.

Civil law and civil procedure OR Criminal law and criminal procedure – time: 3 h – weighting: 4 
Case study on a topic in the subject not chosen by the examining board for the composition paper above.

Executive summary – time: 5 h – weighting: 3 
To be drafted based on documents relating to judicial, legal or administrative issues.

Public law – time: 3 h – weighting: 2

Complementary examinations

A consultation or legal study written based on documents relating to civil law, and with the aim, in particular, of assessing the candidate's ability to apply the law.

Criminal law or public law  – time: 5 h – weighting: 4
A composition on a subject, chosen by the candidate on filing the application, concerning either criminal law (general or special) or public law.

Executive summary – time5 h – weighting: 4
To be drafted based on a dossier on a legal subject.
