ACCESS TO THE HEART OF THE FUNCTION OF JUDGE AND PROSECUTOR

During the solemn ceremony, the 40 trainees will swear to adhere to all the rules of professional ethics specific to the judiciary – and especially professional secrecy with regard to the cases they will come into contact with during their practical training – before the Court presided over by Isabelle Gorce, President of the Court of Appeal of Bordeaux, and in the presence of Florence Poudens, Public Prosecutor at said Court of Appeal. They will now be able to take up the function of judge and prosecutor: they will have access to real judicial case files, be entitled to attend all hearings and be privy to the courts' deliberations.

Given the current public health circumstances, the trainees' private guests will not be able to attend this ceremony at the Court of Appeal, but they will be able to follow it via live streaming.

In addition, the event will also be covered from 9.30 am onwards on the ENM's Twitter account, hashtag #SermentCC2022.

A WIDE VARIETY OF PROFILES IN THE JUDICIARY

Each year, the swearing-in ceremony for the trainees recruited via the ENM's complementary entrance examinations reflects the diversity of profiles of these trainee judges and prosecutors.

For example, this new year group is made up of professionals aged from 37 to 54 who come from a variety of backgrounds in the public and private sectors: former lawyers, but also legal advisors and managers, civil servants, court clerks and court registry managers, police inspectors, legal assistants, a notary, a company manager, a tax manager, an editor, and others.

They all have at least 7 years' experience "that is particularly relevant to a career in the judiciary", which is one of the main requirements for the competitive recruitment process for grade two judges and prosecutors.

SWEARING IN OF FOREIGN TRAINEE JUDGES AND PROSECUTORS

A number of foreign trainee judges and prosecutors selected by the ENM's International Department will also be sworn in at the 20 January ceremony, before they start their 4-month placement with a French court.

These trainees, who come from Niger, Mauritania and Chad, have followed the ENM course alongside the 2021 class of trainee judges and prosecutors for seven months.
