What is your professional background?

"I have 35 years of experience in the judiciary, including specialisations in the fields of criminal law, children's justice, sentence enforcement, the organisation and management of a court and the evaluation and training of judges.

In addition, I have 20 years' experience in the initial and in-service training of judicial staff (judges and prosecutors, lawyers, support workers, etc.) and in setting up training for trainers in the judicial field.

I have also carried out numerous missions abroad."

Where did you carry out your foreign missions?

"My international missions in the fields of judicial staff training, the evaluation of initial and in-service training needs, support for judiciary schools and training course development have taken me to many countries: Lebanon, Brazil, Ivory Coast, Turkey, Tunisia, Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Vietnam, Poland, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Morocco and Mauritania.

In the international cooperation field, I have also done a lot of work with countries in the Middle East on civil, administrative and criminal justice, and also on training the actors in the justice system."

How long have you been an expert for the ENM?

"I started doing expert missions abroad in 2010 when I became regional coordinator at the ENM, in the jurisdiction of the Paris Court of Appeal. Since then I have done about thirty international missions for the School, mainly in training development and instructional engineering, and I have completed numerous trainer training missions. I have also acted as an expert in youth justice and I taught for two years at the ENM as an associate judge lecturer."

Can you tell us about a project you were particularly invested in?

"I was particularly deeply invested in the reinforcement of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Academy. This involved several week-long missions with a co-expert, in 2018, to construct the instructional model for the initial training of judges and prosecutors."

What have you got out of your different missions personally?

"I have always seen my activities a trainer as complementary to my work as a judge and I have learned a great deal from my many exchanges with colleagues abroad. We can learn as much by being trainers as we do as trainees. It has helped me to improve my own practices."

Whether as experts on missions abroad, training session directors or members of the scientific advisory boards for European projects, ENM experts are mobilised in considerable numbers each year to support international judicial cooperation.
